In the dialogue between the sun and the sea, I transform into a wild sunflower, listening and vowing to be the bridge where the golden hue is not harsh but warm like the early year sun on wet sand, while the green is silky like a wave just receding from the shore.
This linen ao dai with raglan sleeves offers a relaxed, unconstrained silhouette, unlike the traditional high collar, while still maintaining the elegant spirit of the Vietnamese ao dai. The deep slit and breathable linen fabric create a gentle drape with every step, like a breeze caressing the body of the dress.
Blue straight-leg trousers are a reminder that fashion isn't just about looking, but about living . This combination doesn't follow the formula of "ceremonial attire" or "elaborate innovation"—it chooses a balance between modernity and authenticity, between aesthetics and durability.
Yellow and green are inherently opposites in the warm/cold spectrum, but when placed side-by-side on natural materials like linen, they harmonize rather than clash. This is the color logic of the tropics: strong sunshine but not harsh, deep sea but not gloomy, creating a visual language that is fresh yet calm, vibrant yet gentle.
We're not trying to tell stories of the distant past, but stories of the days we stood before the sea, letting the sun dry our shoulders, letting the waves dye our heels blue, and realizing that beauty doesn't need noise, beauty needs authenticity, and authenticity naturally endures.
No need to wait for a special occasion; today, the ao dai is a source of pride to wear while strolling through the streets, sitting by the beach, or in everyday moments.
The Raglan ao dai, also known as the "jack-lang" ao dai, is a modernized style of ao dai that appeared in 1960, created by the Dung tailor shop in Dakao, Saigon. The biggest difference of the Raglan ao dai is that it fits the body more snugly, and the sleeves are joined diagonally from the neck down at a 45-degree angle, allowing for greater comfort and flexibility. The two panels are joined together by a row of snap buttons along the side. This style contributed to shaping the future of Vietnamese ao dai.
Outfit suggestions:
-
Pair it with turquoise, moss green, or fuchsia linen trousers for a vibrant contrast, or with wide-leg silk trousers in white, cream, or light yellow to complete a traditional and elegant look.
-
Pair it with minimalist accessories such as a silver necklace, pearl earrings, a delicate bracelet, and a pretty little handbag made from natural materials like straw or rattan.
-
Pointed-toe high heels, strappy sandals, or clogs are all suitable choices.
