Inspiration from Family Heritage

In a moving unveiling at the launch of "Thong Dong | Wanderlust Threads"—a meaningful collaboration between Hity, a leading sustainable fashion brand in Nha Trang, and Lina Michy—time seemed to stand still as she shared the origins of her passion. It wasn't about fleeting trends or social media fame, but a deeply personal story, an invisible connection to her late father.

"I often listen to my father tell stories about each moment, and imagine myself taking up my camera and traveling the world, collecting memories like strings of pearls." - Lina

"My love of creativity has been rooted in my childhood," Lina recalled emotionally. Memories took her back to her grandmother's small village, where young Lina would diligently flip through the pages of her father's worn-out, black leather-bound photo album. "It was a treasure trove of memories steeped in a distinctive nostalgic scent ." That album, with its carefully annotated photographs, not only preserved everyday moments but also opened up unfamiliar horizons through the lens of her father, a passionate amateur photographer.

An unfinished dream and a promise to continue.

Lina's Instagram journey began in 2013, initially as a visual diary documenting her joys, but deep down, it was always a dream of traveling to new lands with her family. However, in 2014, a major tragedy struck. Her father passed away after a long battle with illness, leaving behind immeasurable grief, a photo album – now a precious heirloom – and a big dream left unfulfilled: exploring the world, especially Asia.

"My father had a special fascination with Asia," Lina shared. "He often talked about the magnificent Angkor temples, the bustling floating markets of Thailand, or the serene beauty of Japanese gardens. Asia, to him, was a mystical canvas, a promised land of untold stories. He planted a seed in my heart – a yearning to see Asia and the world, but he never had the chance to do so."

After her father's passing, his dreams did not fade; on the contrary, they became an integral part of Lina's journey. A fierce determination was ignited within her: to go and see, to go and feel, and to go and record what her father had always longed for.

Each frame, a silent conversation.

Now, with a camera in hand and an open heart, Lina Michy wanders across Asia and beyond. Each country she visits, each photograph she takes, each film she records, is not just a work of art, but also "a silent conversation with my father – weaving our story together across time and distance." From the magical sunsets over the ancient towers of Bagan, Myanmar, to the winding, time-worn streets of Hoi An, Vietnam, or the nostalgic tranquility of the ancient buildings in Romania, each of Lina's images is imbued with a sense of longing, a quest. Her lens not only captures the scenery, but also strives to capture the soul of the place, the vibrations that perhaps her father would have felt if he had been there. His legacy is not just a love of photography, but also a profound aesthetic and appreciation for the beauty of life.

Thong Dong weaves dreams onto a journey of travel.

A shared spirit and philosophy brought Lina Michy to Hity. The "Thong Dong | Wanderlust Threads" collection was born as a perfect fusion of Lina's emotionally rich films and Hity's eco-conscious fashion philosophy. These are not just garments designed to be ideal companions on any journey, but also a realization of Lina's deeply moving personal story.

The delicate silk blouses, light as morning mist; the airy linen trousers, like a wandering breeze; and the exquisite handcrafted accessories bearing the mark of the local culture – all meticulously crafted by artisans in Hity's homeland, encapsulate the spirit of exploration and mindfulness. "Through 'Thong Dong | Wanderlust Threads'," Lina shares, "I want to breathe life into my father's dreams in each Hity design, encouraging every traveler to explore the world not only in style but also with an open heart and a meaningful purpose."

Fashion and Travel Net Zero

Fashion today is not just about expressing individuality; it also plays a crucial role in promoting green tourism. In an era where tourism is striving towards Net Zero – balancing carbon emissions – the role of each individual choice is more important than ever. And fashion, beyond the realm of outfits that express personality, is emerging as a key element, an indispensable companion on the journey of green exploration. Fashion not only enhances the trip but is also a powerful statement of responsibility and love for Mother Nature. When travelers prioritize "green" clothing – made from organic, recycled materials, from local brands with environmentally responsible production processes and a commitment to community sustainability – they are directly contributing to the prosperity of that land. Each individual's conscious choice helps limit the amount of non-biodegradable waste, minimize the use of toxic chemicals and clean water in production, and thus reduce the "carbon footprint" of the trips themselves.

The power of green fashion in sustainable tourism extends even further:

  1. Celebrating local resources and ingenuity: Choosing clothing made from natural, eco-friendly materials (such as linen, hemp, bamboo, and naturally dyed silk) not only saves resources but is also often associated with supporting local craft communities, preserving traditional techniques, and biodiversity.
  2. Fostering community awareness: A thoughtfully chosen outfit, with a story about its sustainable origins, when shared, has the power to raise awareness among those around you. It sparks curiosity, discussion, and can inspire other travelers to take action.
  3. Creating a green lifestyle: Green fashion in travel isn't a fleeting trend, but a part of mindful living. It inspires green living beyond the trip, permeating daily routines, encouraging minimalism, responsible consumption, and respect for sustainable values.

Through seemingly small actions like choosing a shirt or a pair of pants, travelers are weaving a larger picture of responsible tourism. Fashion is no longer just about appearances; it becomes a meaningful bridge, seamlessly connecting stylish personal fashion with a deep awareness of preserving the planet for future generations, helping to bring the Net Zero goal in tourism closer to reality.
