Uniforms – Fashion: do you think these two groups are divided?

What does a uniform need? What does fashion need?

Do you agree that “All women have to wear high heels to work?”

Do you agree that “All men should wear ties to work?”

Does a woman have to wear high heels, a shirt and a coat to be considered professional at work?

If you wear a short-sleeved or sleeveless shirt to work, will you be judged as not being serious?

There are many, many questions that we - active women - still wonder about every day when choosing work clothes.

“Some of the trends are that employees represent the company, so employee attire is not about personal identity, but about the company,” says Fordham University professor Scadifi, founder of the Fashion Law Institute. “But there’s also a lot of argument that today’s working people are much more attached to their jobs, so we need to be able to express ourselves at work.”

The debate gets more complicated, especially when it comes to fashion. What may be “proper” to one person may be “indecent” to another. The term “professional” when used to describe dress requirements can become extremely vague, even meaningless.
“We do customer-facing work. We ask our staff to dress appropriately for the job,” said New York Times vice president Michael Golden. But what does “appropriate attire” mean? In the newsroom, Times staffers wear everything from suits to shorts, sneakers and Birkenstocks to loafers.
Too confusing? What to wear, how to wear to work? What is professionalism???
