Emperor Tran Nhan Tong (1258 - 1308) wanted to use culture and customs to gain sympathy as well as respect and appreciation from the Northern envoy. On a spring day, Emperor Tran Nhan Tong received the Yuan envoy Truong Hien Khanh (1291), gave him cakes as a gift, and took the opportunity to write a poem to present to the envoy, conveying his cultural message.
